Nothing leaves your deviceChoose an image above — a live crop preview will appear here.
How to use this image cropper
- Load an image. Drag a JPG, PNG or WebP onto the dropzone. The full picture appears as the starting preview.
- Set the rectangle. Enter width and height for the cut and X/Y for its position — or pick a ratio preset, which keeps the shape locked while you choose the width.
- Watch the preview. Every keystroke redraws the cropped result instantly, so you always see exactly what you'll get.
- Crop and download. Press Crop image to encode the cut in your original format, compare the sizes and save the file.
Useful information
Cropping changes composition, not resolution: the pixels you keep stay exactly as sharp as they were. It's the cleanest way to fit a photo into a fixed frame — avatars, covers, thumbnails, ID photos — because nothing is stretched or invented.
Reading the coordinates
X and Y are the top-left corner of your cut, measured from the image's top-left in pixels. Width and height are the size of the piece. The rectangle is always clamped inside the image, so you can't accidentally pull in empty space.
Ratio presets vs free
Social platforms are strict about shapes: 1:1 for feed posts and profile pictures, 4:5 for portraits in the feed, 16:9 for thumbnails and banners, 3:2 for classic photo frames. With a preset active, the height follows the width automatically. Choose Free when you need exact independent numbers.
Crop first, resize second
Cropping removes what you don't want; resizing scales what's left. If you need both — trim a screenshot, then shrink it — crop here first, then run the result through the Image Resizer. Scaling before cropping wastes pixels on areas you were about to cut away.
Privacy: the image is loaded and cut on your device using a canvas. Nothing is transmitted, stored or logged.
Frequently asked questions
How do I crop an image?
Drop an image in, then set the crop rectangle: X and Y position the top-left corner, width and height set the size of the cut. The preview updates with every change, and Crop image produces the downloadable file.
What do the ratio presets do?
Free lets you enter any width and height. 1:1, 4:5, 16:9 and 3:2 lock the shape — the height follows the width so the crop stays at that exact ratio, which is what most social platforms require.
Can I crop beyond the image edges?
No — the rectangle is clamped inside the image automatically, so the result always contains only real pixels. Widen or move the box and it stops at the edge instead of pulling in empty space.
Which image formats are supported?
JPG, PNG and WebP. The cropped file keeps your input's format, including transparency for PNG and WebP. GIF and SVG are rejected because re-encoding them would lose animation or vector quality.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The crop runs on a canvas inside your browser tab — the file never leaves your device and nothing is stored or logged.
