  2. Enter the amount and pick a rate — 5%, 12%, 18%, 28%, 0% or a custom rate.
  3. Press Calculate. You get three numbers: the original amount, the GST amount and the final total.
  4. Copy the breakdown with one click, or press Reset to start over.

Useful information

GST — Goods and Services Tax — is an indirect tax added on top of most prices. Knowing how to move between “price before GST” and “price including GST” saves mistakes on invoices, quotes and budgets.

Adding GST

Multiply the base amount by (1 + rate ÷ 100). Adding 18% GST to ₹1,000 gives ₹1,180, where the GST portion is ₹180.

Removing GST

Divide the inclusive total by (1 + rate ÷ 100). From ₹1,180 at 18%: ₹1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000, so the tax inside the total is ₹180.

Common GST slabs

In India, GST is commonly charged at 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%, with some essentials at 0%. Rates depend on the category of goods or services, so check the current rate for your item before finalising an invoice — and note that this calculator works just as well for VAT or sales tax percentages in other countries.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add GST to an amount?

Multiply the amount by (1 + rate ÷ 100). For example, adding 18% GST to ₹1,000 gives ₹1,000 × 1.18 = ₹1,180, of which ₹180 is GST.

How do I remove GST from a total?

Divide the GST-inclusive total by (1 + rate ÷ 100). For example, ₹1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000, so the GST portion is ₹180.

Which GST rates does this calculator support?

The common slabs — 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% — plus 0% and any custom rate you type, so it also works for other countries' VAT or sales tax rates.

Is the result exact for my invoice?

The maths is exact for the rate you enter. Always confirm the correct rate for your goods or services, as GST rates depend on the item category and can change over time.

Are my amounts stored anywhere?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser — Jivora never receives the amounts you type.
